Campfire is a free app for viewing and editing song lyrics and chords, available on Android, iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Windows, Linux and the web. This page answers the most common questions and tells you how to reach me if yours is not among them.
Contact me
If you have a question, found a problem or have an idea for the app, send me an email at [email protected]. Please mention the device and the version of Campfire you are using (you can find it in the About section of the app's settings). I read every message and usually answer within a few days.
If you have a GitHub account, you can also report a problem on GitHub, where the app's source code is too.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add songs?
Write them in the app's built-in editor, or import files you already have: Campfire reads ChordPro files (.cho, .chopro, .chordpro, .crd, .chord, .pro and plain .txt) and zip archives of them. Choose Import songs or zip archives… in the settings, or open a file with Campfire from another app.
Where are my songs stored?
On your device, inside the app's own storage. Campfire has no account and no server: your songs never leave your device unless you export them or turn on sync.
How do I back up my library or move it to another device?
There are two ways:
- Export: choose Export library as zip in the settings and save the archive wherever you like. Import that archive on the other device, or keep it as a backup. Single songs and setlists can be exported from their own menus.
- Sync: connect your Dropbox account in the settings, and Campfire keeps the library the same on every device connected to it. Sync is off until you turn it on.
How does sync work, and what can Campfire see in my Dropbox?
Campfire only has access to its own folder, Apps/Campfire, and nothing else in your Dropbox. The files go directly between your device and Dropbox. Choosing Disconnect in the settings stops syncing without deleting anything, either on your device or in Dropbox. The privacy policy has the details.
A sync is asking whether to delete files. What should I do?
Campfire asks before carrying out a sync that would delete many of your files at once, since that usually means a folder was moved or emptied by accident. If you did not mean to delete them, choose the option that keeps them, and they will be copied back.
I deleted the demo songs and want them back.
Choose Add the demo songs in the settings.
How do I delete my data?
To delete your whole library, open the settings, go to Library and tap the row that shows how many songs and setlists you have, then type DELETE and confirm. If Dropbox sync is connected, this also deletes your songs and setlists from the Apps/Campfire folder and from every other device synced with it, so choose Disconnect first if you only want to clear this device. Tapping Cover art cache on the same screen deletes the cover images kept on the device.
Uninstalling the app removes everything from the device. If you used sync without deleting your library first, also delete the Apps/Campfire folder in your Dropbox. I hold no copy of your data, so there is nothing for me to delete.
